Fall in Chicago is something special. The crisp air, golden leaves, and cozy layers create the perfect backdrop for family portraits. But let’s be real – getting everyone camera-ready can be… a process. If you’re booking fall family photos in Chicago, or anywhere for that matter, these tips will help you get the most out of your photos (and actually enjoy the day!)
Golden hour is the secret sauce of beautiful outdoor photos. Sessions are typically scheduled 60–90 minutes before sunset. For fall, that means earlier start times as the days get shorter. Not sure if your little ones will last that long? Morning sessions are an option too, especially for young kids with early bedtimes.
Fall is sweater weather – but it can be unpredictable. Think layers, textures, and colors that complement the season: burgundy, mustard, olive, and denim always look amazing. Avoid busy patterns and logos, and don’t forget footwear that works for grass, dirt, or city sidewalks.
Kids are wiggly. Pets are unpredictable. That’s all part of the fun. The best photos often happen in between the “perfect” poses. My job is to guide you and capture those beautiful, spontaneous moments.
You don’t need a perfect performance. You just need to show up – I’ll take care of the rest.
From Lincoln Park to Montrose Harbor to the tree-lined streets of Roscoe Village or urban vibes of the Fulton Market District, Chicago is bursting with fall photo spots. I help families choose the right setting based on your vision – whether you want urban textures, skyline views, or golden trees.
When kids (and grown-ups) are having fun, it shows. I bring prompts, games, and a relaxed approach to every session. We keep things moving and natural – no stiff posing required.
Fall dates fill up fast – especially weekends in September and October. Grab your preferred time before the calendar books out.
